Table of Reccomendations
Recommended Suggestions for Privacy
- The most complete alternative to gmail with the most most robust suite of features including calender, VPN, cloud storage, and a drive. The encryption is a nice plus, but will only work if you are sending emails to other proton mial users.
- ~$2.50/month for mail or ~$10/month for all the features included
- A cheaper version of proton mail with a functional, but less polished suite of resources. Runs 100% on green energy, running in Germany (subject to Europe's GDPR regulations) and they don't store your emails on their servers
- ~$3/month for all features included
- An effective and modern email service with all teh feature you could want for electronic communication, but not the extension mentioned above. Runs 100% on hydroelectric power, running in Germany (subject to Europe's GDPR regulations) and they don't store your emails on their servers
- ~$3/month, accepts cryptocurrencies
FYI – No communication is properly secure unless you are encrypting it yourself or using an app that implements encryption by design like Status.
Web Browsers
- Blocks Ads and limits tracking. Seemless transition from Google Chrome, best place to start
- Firfox Fork with a beautiful design and reimagined way to organize your many tabs, built with privacy and productivity in mind. Personal favorite.
Notes
- Simple, yet fully customizable if you wish. Keeps all your files in MarkDown format and stored locally.
- Free, but $50 a year if you want to sync across devices (but there are work arounds).
- Great place to start the idea of building a second brain with lots of resources and functionality, although I don't believe it is the best for privacy.
- Free for individuals
VPN
- Great place to start if you want to start protecting your IP address and to gain access to other countries websites. Easily has the most servers available.
- ~$3/month
- High standard of service while having the option to maintain your anonymity through the payment process
- ~$3/month, accepts cryptocurrencies
